About Us

Chalmers Ardler church serves the communities of Ardler and St.Mary’s. The church was originally in the Hawkhill community of Dundee but when the University of Dundee extended their campus, the congregation took up the challenge of transporting themselves to the newly built community of Ardler. In the late 1960’s and early 70’s, over 10,000 people lived in Ardler. In the late 1990’s a massive physical regeneration programme took place which resulted in demolition of the majority of houses. Instead of flats and multi story blocks, the new houses are mostly semi detached

At the heart of the community is the community centre, two primary schools and the church.  Following a congregational survey that looked at ideas of worship, a refurbishment project was carried out. Pews have been replaced with new seating which allows greater flexibility; data projectors were installed that allow us to use a wide range of praise items. The organ was removed and an extended chancel accommodates a weekly praise group.

We believe that worship involves our relationships with one another and so the vestibule and entrance to the church has also been refurbished. It is not only bright and welcoming, it has created an environment for drinking tea and coffee and chatting. A quiet room was created that allows for prayer or ministry after each service and this is greatly appreciated.
