Saturday 12 May
Messy Church runs from 3.30pm to 5.30pm on occasional Saturdays. It is an event that caters for all ages but in a different format from our regular Sunday services.
The format is quite simple. There are activities, crafts and games followed by worship and a meal. Past crafts have ranged from making bread to coasters, sheep masks and marshmallow pigs, while activities have included small groups making a pig from newspapers, bandaging, quizzes, a smelling session and making banners. Games have included board games, giant ‘garden games,’ parachute games and relays. These are not designed to be competitive but to allow people to mix. The crafts and other activities are linked to our worship theme and generally involve all ages working and co-operating together.
From 4.40pm to 5pm we have an act of worship which often includes a video clip, usually two short songs and a story.
After this we eat together, continuing the ethos of all ages enjoying the company of others.
Messy Church is free although there is a donations box. The one “rule” we do have is that young people between the ages of 0 and 16 are accompanied by an adult.
